Batak

Board game · Cards · 1 player (vs 3 bots) · 4–6 min per hand · free · no download · no sign-up

Batak is a Turkish trick-taking game for four players with a 52-card deck, closely related to Spades. This is the bidding (ihaleli) variant: after the deal each player declares how many tricks they expect to take — the minimum bid is 4. The highest bidder picks the trump suit and leads the first trick. You must follow suit, and if you can, you must also beat the highest card on the table; when void, playing a trump is mandatory even if it cannot win. If the declarer makes the contract they score their tricks; if not, they lose the bid (they "go down"). The other players score their tricks. First to 51 wins the match, and the hard bot counts every card played.

Frequently asked questions

Which Batak variant is this?
The bidding (ihaleli) variant: a single round of bidding, and the highest bidder picks the trump. Follow-suit, mandatory beating and mandatory trumping when void are all enforced — you must trump even when it cannot win.

How is it scored?
The declarer scores their tricks if they make the contract, and loses the bid if they miss. The other three players score their tricks. The match is played to 51 points.

How do the bots play?
Easy drops the occasional careless card; normal plays solid heuristics; hard counts every card played and plans around the remaining high cards.
